After winning six straight matches, the Ludlow golf team was handed their first loss to Minnechaug yesterday 163 to 172. According to Head Coach Kurt Anderson, the loss will not hinder the team’s goal of going to Western Mass.

We will stay focused on team goals: Win the league, qualify for the Western Mass tournament, win the Western Mass tournament. The team will accomplish this by continual daily improvement, giving their best effort (both physical & mental toughness), staying together as ‘one-team/family’, and enjoying the experience,” said Anderson.

Anderson added that he is happy with the team’s selfless effort. “The returning team members are helping the new players feel welcome and part of the golf team family. They are all great kids.”

Keira Gay, first female captain of the golf team, also hopes the rest of the season goes well.

“We’re now 6-1 but we’ll definitely get some more wins,” she said, adding that it’s “pretty cool” to be appointed the first female captain. She will add that accomplishment to her college application and hopefully get some recognition from it.

“On the course we play as a team and we all respect each other. Off the course we go our separate ways, which is fine, as long as we unite on the course we’re set,” says Keira.
