After an excruciatingly long process in deciding the victor for the first game, freshmen versus sophomores, the upper-classmen’s event had taken place almost half an hour after the specified time.
The crowd, far smaller than the previous year, managed to drop to an even smaller amount before the first quarter started. Regardless, it seemed the team numbers paralleled the number of attendees:
A measly fourteen players representing the junior class—their number of coaches and cheerleaders engulfing the ratio to a concerning amount. Though the seniors seemed to have a similar issue regarding Powderpuff numbers with twenty-two students participating with one missing.
Game Summary
Tug of War:
Seniors
MVPs:
Seniors: Anyesha Donais
Juniors: Avelin Sargent and Maddie Riley
First Quarter: 0-0
There had been a brief false touchdown from Avelin Sargent, which was quickly disregarded when investigated by Ollquist. The seniors themselves had managed to prove themselves as incredible defenders as many of the close calls for the juniors were almost immediately put to a stop as soon as they started.
Besides Sargent, the juniors seemed to fall behind in speeding away from the seniors during the first quarter.
Second Quarter: 12 – 0
Player 14 seems to mimic a “false” touchdown just as the juniors had, disregarded when investigated briefly before continuing. Ava Freeze later scores the first touchdown of the game, where player 6 quickly follows up with a second touchdown.
While on the junior’s team, which had fairly great throwing made by Maddie Riley (which is why she was deemed one of the MVPs). It would become a later-on-in-the-game issue where catching her incredible throws would become apparent.
Halftime Show
Before the first showing had started, the juniors show, the power had completely gone out throughout the stadium. The commentators claimed that it had been the snack bar, a “blown fuse,” to which they awkwardly admitted later on in the third quarter that it had instead been an accident on their part:
Assuming that the game would have somehow ended on time, 8:30, they had set the stadium to black-out at the exact time.
Third Quarter: 18 – 0
A brief instance of the juniors attempting to run with a dead-ball occurs, to which their third timeout had been called, along with a second timeout made by the senior team.
It had been practically right after that where player 6 and Anyesha made a quick touchdown once again.
Fourth Quarter: 36 – 0
Faith Keroack, and another fast-paced player, makes back-to-back touchdowns–to which Anyesha again (which is why she had been one of the MVPs) makes an incredible last minute touch down sealing the game with a painful thirty-six to zero score.
It had only taken a few minutes for the stadium to clear, painful music blasting in the background for all who came attempting to go home around 9 PM.
Regardless of who won and whatnot, there surely more is to be said surrounding the lack of spirit (attendees) at the match. Though besides numbers, there were a handful of issues: fairly distracting commentary that didn’t do anything in describing what was happening, and choosing to stop the clock whenever they felt the need to during the second and final quarter.
Again, the seniors managed to win each year they’ve spent at LHS—officially becoming the first group of students to win all four years. The juniors however, seem to be pushing themselves into a potential losing streak of all their four years in contrast to the seniors.
