The Ludlow High School Boys Varsity Volleyball Team has moved up to the 5th seed, passing Minnechaug, after winning five games consecutive games.
They went 3-1 against Sabis and Belchertown, but came back and won 3-0 against Putnam, Sci-Tech, and Holyoke High School.

The Varsity team has faced a more challenging season after having two players quit, as well as having a newer and younger team — after losing four seniors last year. There are three starting seniors on the Varsity team: Sergey Vikhrev, setter; Devin Senerchia, middle hitter; and Timothy Cardaropoli, libero.

After winning against Holyoke last night, Vikhrev said: “It feels really good to win last night against the Knights. We played good as a team. It feels pretty great to be coming closer to clinching playoffs again this year. We hope to win definitely at least two more games, if not many more and make it further into playoffs than last year.”

Although the team has many players that have played volleyball for more than one year, there are two players, Junior Cody Chase and Sophomore Alec Albright, that have moved their way up from being a Junior Varsity player onto the starting line-up for Varsity.

“It’s actually crazy,” said Chase. “I didn’t think I’d be ready nor did I think I’d be doing as good as I am.”

As of right now, the boys record is 8-7.

So far this season, Juniors Nick Manewich (middle, outside, and right-side hitter) has 124 kills this season; Chad Noga (outside and right-side hitter) has 172; Chase (right-side hitter) has 21, and Sophomore Alec Albright (outside and right-side hitter) has 35 kills. Vikhrev has 444 assists and 64 digs; Dominick Albano (defensive specialist) has five assists, two kills, and 88 digs; Logan Giebner (defensive specialist) has one kill and 41 digs; and Cardaropoli has one assist, 126 digs, one kill, and 11 serving aces.

The boys are next scheduled to play Sabis Vocational High School at Sabis on May 13 at 5:00 p.m.
