Friendship is an important part of life. Having good friends can make school, life, and everyday activities more enjoyable. A good friend is someone who truly cares about you, supports the decisions you make in life, and enjoys spending time with you. One of the most important things in a friendship is knowing that they have your back and want you to succeed. Good friends will constantly clown on you, but also help you when you’re having a difficult day. They are thoughtful and care about how you feel. Small acts of kindness, such as congratulating each other or helping them out with a problem, can make a big difference in a friendship.
Another important quality is honesty. Good friends tell you the harsh truth and won’t sugar coat and lie to you when things look rough or bad. They keep promises without spreading rumors or gossiping about you behind your back. Trust is the most important aspect of friendship because it lets people feel comfortable and safe around each other. When friends trust one another, their friendship grows and thrives.
Being supportive, and cheering each other on during each other’s achievements and growth is another sign of great friendships. They celebrate each other’s successes and offer encouragement when things crumble and bring you back up instead of just degrading or berating you, whether it is to your face or behind your back. A true friend is always there through thick and thin, pushing you further.
When writing this article I asked some of my own friends, ‘What makes a good friend?’ Aaden Rondeau said, “A reliable friend will also tell you if you’re in the wrong, and be honest with you.”
Another one of my friends,Marcus Goncalves, said, “A reliable friend is someone who is there for you and has your back, someone who understands you and who you understand.” These people have true friendships and have at least one person they can trust with everything.
Listening is another quality of a good friend. When someone needs to talk, they pay attention and try to understand your feelings and can empathize with you. They don’t always need to have the last say or the perfect answer. Sometimes just listening and being there is enough to help and be a good, reliable friend people can count on.
Good friends also know how to have fun together. They share interests, make memories, and enjoy spending time with each other. Whether they are playing sports, hanging out after school, or simply talking, they enjoy each other’s company. No friendship is perfect. Friends disagree sometimes, but good friends work through problems respectfully and never kick you while you’re down. They communicate, apologize when necessary, and try to understand each other’s point of view.
In conclusion, a good friend is reliable, honest, supportive, and trustworthy. They listen and are there when you need them most. Strong friendships take effort, but they can last a long time and make life happier and more meaningful. Everyone should have at least one real friend that they can rely on more than anything.
