Since January 20th, 2025, the second inauguration of President Donald Trump has led to a constant catastrophe for thousands in America—ICE raids. Masked officers have been detaining and deporting citizens whom they perceive as immigrants in Trump’s attempt to “Make America Great Again.”
ICE raids have split the country in half. Sympathetic Americans call for the abolishment of ICE, claiming the attacks against these humans are unconstitutional and cruel. The way immigrants are aggressively charged and persecuted for something that is only a civil offence in this country has caught the attention of many. Others claim the strikes are justified and encourage the empowerment of the officers.
A woman named Renee Nicole Good was killed by an ICE agent on the 7th of January this year. Critics say different things, but the events of the crime are as follows;
Good was in her car at the time of an ICE raid in Minneapolis. A couple of officers approached her while she was sitting idle in the driver’s seat, and they demanded she exit the vehicle at once. Though Nicole hadn’t done anything apparently wrong, the agents had their guns steady as they surrounded her. One agent even tried to force his way in, banging on the doors and trying to unlock her vehicle. When Renee attempted to move the car, an officer shot her 3 times directly in the forehead.
A crucial thing to remember about this case is that it is illegal for officers to kill even citizens who are proven to be criminals in America, let alone an innocent bystander being shot 3 times to the head. Given the fact that Renee was a visibly white woman and ended up being identified as a fully legal and longtime American citizen, people should be outraged. Renee lost her life to a faulty officer for a crime she never committed. However, because the officer was an ICE agent, plenty of discourse has been spreading over whether what he did was justified or completely out of line.
A direct message is being sent to the citizens of America. No matter what race you are or what crime you have (or rather, haven’t) committed, nobody in this country is safe from the cruelty of ICE.
President Trump’s tweet about the crime was as expected. The whole paragraph is a disrespectful pass at Renee. He calls her “disorderly” and an obstructer who attempted to run over an officer. He then goes on to disregard her death as a mere result of “Radical Left Threats.” His praises of ICE are clear to see, and they are a sign that events like this one aren’t stopping any time soon.
A video of Renee’s murder was also captured and has been posted all over the internet. It is a harsh watch, but an important thing to watch before forming an opinion on what really happened that day. The video depicts exactly how terrifying the situation must have been for Renee and can even debunk the theory that she attempted to run over the officer.
Following this tragic event, protests against the immigration services have been sparked not only in this country, but all over the world. Angry Americans demand that these officers leave citizens alone. On the other hand, supporters of ICE have come out to combat the change and defend Trump’s decision to detain immigrants.
Because the crime was such a recent occurrence, the consequences are still unknown. One thing is for certain, though- the people of America are being divided more and more each day.
