Ludlow High School’s annual football game, Powderpuff, had deemed both the Freshman and Junior class as the top athletes on Wednesday night during spring spirit week.
For those who chose to not attend for whatever reason; you certainly should aim to next year. Powderpuff—in simple terms—parallels the average LHS football game with only female players. It’s meant to be one of the bigger events that adds points toward the annual event called “Battle of the Classes,” a competition between all the classes to be the best class.
Whether it’s by participating in the multiple spirit weeks throughout the year, winning pep rallies, Powderpuff, or the tug of war that occurs between the two Powderpuff games, you and your class usually gains points through basic participation. It’s why most classes past freshman year tend to take the series of events seriously since most students tend to relish in the competitiveness of said events.
Powderpuff, since reinstated, usually provides three major events:
Freshmen versus Sophomores
Tug of War
Juniors versus Seniors
The Tug of War is meant to act as a “halftime show” between the two games if there isn’t some quick act from both the Freshmen and Sophomores. Unlike the two football games, Tug of War is between all four classes rather than two on two. By then most students tend to point out the upperclassmen arriving to make it to the halftime event.
Onto the scores for all three events, the Freshman and Junior classes had one their respective games.
Between Freshmen and Sophomores—the score was left at 21-14 by the end of the game. Most Sophomores, the players and audience, were left frustrated with their team: evidently shown by students alike during and after the game.
Between both football games, the Juniors had taken the win against the rest of the classes during tug of war. The event had certainly added onto the frustration the players and audience were experiencing during the first game.
The Juniors and Seniors had just barely finished their game with a solid 7-2. Most underclassmen had already left the event entirely, paralleling their own game as upperclassmen began to arrive near the end of their game.
Outside Powderpuff, Sophomores were able to successfully win spirit week as a whole except for Wednesday, class color day, given rightfully toward the Junior class.
As of now, the current Battle of the Classes points, given on the most recent spirit week document, for each class goes as follows:
Sophomores : 64 pts
Juniors : 63 pts
Seniors : 70 pts
There was no official Battle of the Classes data toward Freshman points overall—leaving their score up to interpretation for the other classes.
