It’s that time of year, LHS spirit week is back! December 19 marks the week before winter break, and an increase in school spirit. This spirit week will run from December 19 through December 23; it will consist of themed outfit days, the LHS Olympics, and community service.

The LHS Olympics

For this year’s winter spirit week activities, students and teachers will have the opportunity to participate in the LHS Olympics. The events will begin on Tuesday, December 20, with a staff competition at lunch. On Wednesday, students will have the opportunity to compete during lunch. The festivities will conclude on Thursday with an escape room. This competition will take place first through fourth period and will feature eight students from each grade. See your class president to sign up for any competitions.

Community Service

Each spirit week, LHS students participate in a community service project. During fall fest, LHS students collected gently used clothing to benefit the Epilepsy Foundation. This winter, students will have the opportunity to participate in penny wars. Students will bring in pennies to add to their grades jug, increasing their class value. Additionally, they can bring in silver coins (quarters, nickels, and dimes) along with dollar bills to add to the jugs of other grades. This will subtract from the other grades’ total. For example a senior brings in 50 pennies and adds them to the class of 2023 jug — this adds 50 cents to their grade’s total — they then add a five dollar bill to the junior jug — subtracting five dollars from the class of 2024 total.

At the end of the week, the money will be used to buy various gift cards for students in need of holiday cheer. To nominate a student fill out the nomination form found on the Lion’s Pride google classroom (code: gd5xuws). Nominations and money will be collected during Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday call-downs.
