Seniors prepare for final week at LHS

The senior calendar for the class of 2016 was released on April 11 by Assistant Principal Nancy Kurty. Students who have paid their class dues are able to take part in a week of activities and events leading up to graduation at University of Massachusetts.

Students will begin by taking final exams from Wednesday, May 11 through Monday, May 16. When students take their final exams they must report at the scheduled time and must leave the building at the end of the exam period. Dismissal times vary.

A mandatory “Commencement Protocol Rehearsal,” or the rehearsal for the rehearsal of their graduation, will be held on May 18. At this rehearsal students will receive their caps and gowns.

On May 19 the seniors will jump on a bus and head to Altitude Trampoline Park in Billerica, Mass. Students should meet in the back gym prior to 7:30 a.m. They return at 5:30 p.m. The cost of the trip is $20.

Senior Farewell takes place on Friday May 20 at 8 a.m. Seniors must wear their cap and gown and enter through the loading dock and meet in the cafeteria.

Advisors ask that seniors do not bring any valuables. After the farewell the seniors will take their final walkthrough of the school.

“I am most looking forward to Senior Farewell because it will be fun to see the juniors put on the skit,” said senior Mia Jeronimo.

Also on May 20, seniors are invited to attend a class picnic at Sonny’s Place in Somers, Connecticut. The picnic will begin at 10 a.m. and end at about 3 p.m. The cost of this event is $32.

On May 23 seniors will be attending their class night at 6pm. This event is held in the LHS cafeteria and attendees should enter through the loading dock. The highlights of the evening include senior awards and the senior slide show. Students will receive tickets to this event after the commencement protocol rehearsal and after they turn in their letters thanking their parents that they will write at this event. In the letter students must thank their parents for all they have done for them. The letters are due by May 10 to Mrs. Santos-Pontes in room E203.

“This is a mandatory event, so do not be late,” said Kurty.

On May 24 the Ludlow Country Club will be throwing a banquet for the seniors. There will be a DJ and food at this event. Also seniors will receive their yearbooks.

To conclude their farewell, the seniors will be having their graduation on May 26 at the University of Massachusetts. The seniors will be given breakfast between 7:45 a.m. and 8:15 a.m, before their morning rehearsal.

Finally, when their moment arrives at 6:00 p.m.(doors open at 5:15) on Thursday, May 26, their four years at LHS will come to an end.

“I’m excited and ready to move on to the next chapter of my life,” said senior Anthony Trigilio, “It does feel weird though, especially since it’s not going to be the same process that we’ve had for the past 12 years.”

If seniors would like to participate in all events the cost is $80 for the whole week. If a student doesn’t want to participate in all the events they can bring money for the individual events. All money is due by May 10 to room E203.

“I am most looking forward to spending time with our class and making our last memories together during Senior Week,” said Alyssa Coelho.
