Interact Club holds soup kitchen

LHS Interact Club members Rossano Butcher and Kathryn Vaz participated in an open pantry soup kitchen on April 6 at Christ Church Cathedral in the Quadrangle in Springfield, MA.

The members made a contribution from 4:30 to 5:30 pm, by assisting in preparing meals that would be served that evening to those less fortunate in the community. This soup kitchen was one of the many the club has participated in throughout the year.

“The soup kitchen went much better than I expected,” said  Butcher. “Many more people signed up, but in the end it was just myself, Kathryn and Mrs. Olmo who were able to go. Although we were short handed we were able to feed approximately 50 needy people.”

So far this year the Interact Club held three successful soup kitchens.

“I think it is a good experience for students to do, as it is showing the community that we care and that we are willing to give our time to help others,” said Interact advisor Mrs. Jessica Olmo. “It can be difficult to find time in a busy schedule but helping others feels good to do and it shows others that you care enough to give your time.”

Anyone who would like to participate in an open pantry soup kitchen, may contact one of the Interact officers for more information.
