Guidance department hosts college night

The guidance department has rescheduled the program entitled “College Planning for Juniors and Their Parents” to March 9 at 6:30 in the cafeteria.

“It is the only big place left in our building, so we’ll make the location work,” said director of guidance, Mrs. Linda Duame.

Duame hopes all juniors with plans of attending a four-year college will attend with at least one of their parents or guardians.

The program will cover topics such as junior and senior year planning calendars, the college selection process and application procedure, admission testing, and NCAA elgibility.

“The expected outcome after these winter and early spring guidance workshops and events is the culmination of a college list that each junior will have created with ‘reach’ colleges, ‘good fit’ colleges, and ‘safety’ colleges,” said Duame.

In addition to this college night, Duame and junior class guidance counselor, Mrs. Lydia Brady, will be holding many events in the upcoming months to help juniors make college plans.  Some of these events include college planning workshops in US History classes and a college fair which will be held March 11 from 9AM-12:15PM for all grade levels.

“We have not had a college fair here in a very long time, so this is almost like a ‘first ever’ event for LHS. The college fair here will be followed by the biggest regional college fair at the Big E in April,” said Duame.

The college fair will feature colleges such as Emmanuel College, Holyoke Community College, Worcester State Univesity, and Porter and Chester Institute.
