Fire alarm activated once again at LHS

Fire+alarm+activated+once+again+at+LHS

On Monday, September 25th, right before fourth period had started, the fire alarm suddenly went off, surprising everybody attending school that morning. It was an unusual occurrence, as fire drills usually happen when everybody has become situated in class.

This is not the first time it’s happened this year. The first time was just a fire drill, but the next few times were entirely unintentional.

On September 7th, the fire alarm went off not once, but twice before the first bell had even rang. The debacle that morning was most likely caused by a faulty alarm combined with the dense humidity that morning.

According to the Bainbridge Island Fire Department, “Smoke alarms don’t always distinguish between smoke particles and moisture content. Thus, the density of the moisture particles can trigger your alarm, even if they’re water particles.”

However, today’s incident was caused entirely by a fluke in the system. When asked what happened with the fire alarm this morning, Mrs. Nemeth stated: “I have no idea. It went off, and we have a panel in the main office that shows us where it went off. It went off in the back gym; the fire department and police walked to the back gym. It didn’t show it as going off so we have no idea. They reset the panel so we’re good to go.”

It’s possible that the fire alarms at LHS might be faulty and in need of replacement, but that’s entirely speculation. However, many students report that the extra ten minutes of break was pleasant, and that hopefully the fire alarm stays broken for just a bit longer.
