Although many looked forward to and enjoyed this year’s prom at LHS, some had their doubts. Most remember the four hours spent at the country club or even the day they spent preparing and celebrating with friends. Yet few shed light on the weeks, months, and even years of work put in ahead of time in order to make this magical night happen.
Last year, around this time, many seniors complained about both the location and date of the 2025 prom. Some seniors even questioned if they should “Boycott their Senior Year prom.” To the junior class council, this was a bit excessive. The date was being pushed two days earlier, and the venue was just as beautiful as the Log Cabin. For it being only two days sooner, the backlash we originally received was surprising.
In a Cub article written by Taylor Colberg, it was stated that “Maybe other schools have prom this early in the year, but Ludlow should not fall under that category again.”
Despite their original doubt, our night was truly enchanted. From the food to the decor to the DJ and cold sparks. What else could anyone ask for? On the menu was a house and Caesar salad, house rolls, chicken parmesan, New York strip, broccoli alfredo with penne, roasted potatoes, and veggies. We finished the night with endless cookies, brownies, and an epic ice cream bar. People had nothing but good remarks about how delicious the food was, which was something we had not heard about at the Log Cabin. An elegant meal to match the beautiful decor.
The tables were lined with black linen and white cloth napkins, centered with a lovely oriental lily, a black mask, white pearls, and a gold charger. It was simple yet beautiful. Black and white balloons were hung in the arches of the venue, and costume masks were displayed all around for people to wear or save as a way to remember the night. Outside by a beautiful view of the golf course, were marquee letters which lit the saying “Prom 25”.
The DJ was one in a million, “she played the best of all worlds, mixing pop music, with top hits, and she even threw in some Portuguese songs”, said Ryan Mateus.
And no one can forget the cold sparks. For me personally, it was one of the best moments of prom. Firework by Katy Perry blasted loudly through the speakers as the party lights changed colors and people jumped around. As soon as the beat dropped, cold sparks were up in the air, everyone cheered, and the night felt complete.
Throughout the night, myself and the other officers had numerous people come up and say how incredible everything was, and how much they enjoyed the venue. When speaking with Mrs. Nemeth she expressed, “It was just as elegant as our infamous Log Cabin and I absolutely loved the outdoor patio, the view, and the lighted letters outside.” She even said that she was “very excited to have it at a different venue.
Although we will be back at the Log Cabin next year, we are glad that everyone got the chance to enjoy a little change.
It’s sad that all the planning has come to an end, but we made it happen. Juniors Madalyn Marques, Sam Pontes, Carina Fonseca, and I, Abigail Odiorne. We, along with the help of our representatives, worked since the end of Sophomore year to plan a prom considered one of the best at LHS.

To understand the behind the scenes, Marques explains what work was done between the officers, “ [we each] took on many tasks. … Sam was in charge of ordering the flowers and transporting them to the country club. Carina was in charge of the budget and maintaining it. Abby made the whole process of signing up for tables. Where I was [mainly] in charge of contacting the DJ and event director”. The four of us worked very well together, handling any issue that came our way and helping each other through each step. With the help of some class representatives, each job was so much simpler.
Hosting a prom for over 300 students is a lot to handle. It was a task that definitely wasn’t easy, but created a lot of excitement and reward along the way. One of the best parts of planning the prom was getting to see our visions come to life. Tears of gratitude and accomplishment filled my eyes just looking around the country club, observing everyone enjoying the night. After prom the DJ sent us a video of a reflection of the night, something that we will look back on and cherish for the rest of our lives.
For the upcoming juniors, we leave you with some advice, and I wish you all the best of luck. I know it seems like a lot right now, but once you get going, it’s a lot of fun. You will bond with your other officers and reps through the entire process as you have long nights together working on decor, seating charts, and much more. Don’t let these moments go, and cherish each step.
It is important that, through all the complaints you may receive, you seek the positive and work to your fullest extent.
Marques says, “You cannot make everyone happy; no matter what, there will be something to complain about”.
Make sure to communicate, delegate roles to your officers, and create checklists to look over and over again. Once everything comes together, the end result will be worth it all. It is extremely rewarding to see your hard work throughout the year come to life and watch every little thing fall right into place.
Take the time to work out every detail, every problem, and every accommodation, because trust me it’s worth it. Take every step to make sure there are no errors, and never think you are completely done because there is always more that can be done.
As our chapter of planning and preparing comes to an end, we pass it on to the upcoming juniors. Embrace every challenge you will face and enjoy the entire process, it’s worth it in the end. Good luck– we can’t wait to see the magic you create.
