On October 8, 2025, the class of 2027 will embark on their field trip to Salem, Massachusetts. The trip will include a visit to the Salem Witch Museum at 10:15 as well as plenty of free time for the students to roam around the town. The buses will depart around 7:30, leave Salem around 3:30, and arrive back at LHS for around 6:00.
One conflict that came up was with the JV and varsity volleyball games at West Springfield High School. The buses are not scheduled to arrive back at school in time for the Junior girls to make their game. The students have eagerly been trying to work around this conflict, but ultimately they will not be able to move the game. Unfortunately, they will not be able to come on the trip and will be refunded.
The boys and girls cross county teams also had to move their Senior Night to a different date because the field trip and Senior Night fell on the same day. Their meet against Northampton High School is still taking place, but many of the Juniors on the team are opting out of the meet to go on the field trip. It seems like the cross country coaches are less strict about attendance than the volleyball coaches.
Students should not have to miss field trips for their sports. Going forward, there should be more communication between advisors and coaches regarding the scheduling of events.
