Summer vacation is notoriously known for one thing: travel. Whether it be interstate, intrastate, or international, people can’t resist the call of adventure once the days are longer and temperatures rise. So much comes to mind when I think of summer, like lathering tanning lotion on olive skin while sipping a virgin pina colada. Others have the adventurous soul and try cliff-jumping into crystal-clear waterfalls. Some dress up and indulge in endless shopping sprees fueled by a strawberry açaí because summer is all about creating unforgettable memories. But where are people heading to this year? From topical escapes to road trip getaways, I’ve rounded up the top 5 hottest, trendiest travel destinations around the globe. So buckle up and get ready to start booking.
Starting off with Number 5: Pittsburgh, New Hampshire
If your idea of a getaway includes getting off grid, diving into nature, and exploring the backwoods with your adventure, then Pittsburg, New Hampshire (NH) is the place to be. Just a couple of miles from Canada (about a four-hour drive from Massachusetts), you can find tranquility and peace in the woods.
This cup of tea is not for everyone, but it can be appreciated by those who love the wild, who find joy in the sound of rushing streams, the thrill of off-road trails, and stargazing. There is an abundance of Airbnb listings nestled right in the woods. You could also book a campsite and spend the night in a pop-up tent.
New Hampshire is the land of a thousand lakes, and you can get lost in its boundless nature in Pittsburg. There are so many nature activities to do, such as cliff jumping, fishing, zip-lining through acres of woods, hiking in the White Mountains, and swimming under waterfalls.
Just short of a 30-minute hike is Garfield Falls. They have gigantic waterfalls, which are great for cliff jumping. Also, ATVs are a common source of fun in the woods, and they can entertain you with hours of trails to explore. Get ready to get muddy, though. Other activities include paddleboarding, canoeing, and kayaking.
One of my closest friends, Luke Slatton, recalls that his favorite thing about Pittsburg, New Hampshire, is fishing.
“I love casting out at the beginning of the Connecticut River, especially in the Trophy Stretch,” he said. “I can spend hours out there catching rainbow trout, brown trout, and salmon. But nothing beats catching fresh salmon—it’s so different from anything you’d buy at the store. The taste is just so fresh.”
Evenings in Pittsburg, NH, are just as memorable. You can cozy up around a campfire with family and friends, roasting marshmallows and making s’mores while telling campfire stories.
With zero light pollution, you can see every star at night—you might even catch a glimpse of the northern lights. And if you need gear for your outdoor excursions, you’re never far from a wilderness outfitter.
Whether you’re into adventure and exercise by hiking, fishing, off-roading, or just soaking up the peace and quiet in the woods, Pittsburgh offers the perfect blend of rugged adventure and a nature retreat.
The drive up alone is a journey worth taking, with scenic routes that remind you how beautiful and underrated local travel can be. If you’re looking to disconnect, breathe fresh mountain air, and explore the wild side of New Hampshire, Pittsburgh is the spot to go.
Coming in at number four: Aruba, an island hop away
If you’re looking for a relaxing escape where crystal, clear water meets soft, white sand and time becomes unknown, Aruba is dialing in the perfect “resort” vibe. Known as “One Happy Island,” Aruba is full of fun experiences in the sun. Many people don’t know that Aruba is known for their aloe plant and products. Over the last 160 years, aloe has played a huge part in their economy (in recent years it has been surpassed by tourism).
You can visit the Aruba Aloe Factory and Museum, where one can walk through the production facility, see how aloe is harvested, and how it is turned into skincare products while learning how it shaped Aruba’s history. The best part is you can buy their aloe products or have them shipped back home to enjoy with family and friends.
When it comes to where to stay, Aruba is home to a variety of resorts, many offering stress-free experiences with everything you need right on-site. My best friend, Isabella “Bella” Cyr, and her family have made the Aruba Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino their yearly go-to place to relax and soak up some sun.
The resort is filled with activities ranging from snorkeling, diving, tubing, taking a boat to a private beach, and outside yoga. My personal favorite thing when I went with her was beachside sunrise yoga. It was the perfect way to start my morning stress-free.
The resort also has a mini-mall with boutique shops, and of course, a Starbucks for all the girls who can’t live without their Strawberry Acai. If you go to Aruba, I encourage you to go try something at the grocery store, something unique that you can’t find back home. It’s a small way to experience local life— you might discover a new favorite snack.
When I asked Bella what her favorite thing about Aruba was, she smiled and said, “I really enjoyed making playlists for the plane and the island. I love matching music to the mood of a place. But my all-time favorite part is the poffertjes. I love waking up every morning and going across the street to a cafe and eating them with blueberries and powdered sugar.”
If you’ve never tried them, poffertjes are mini Dutch pancakes—fluffy, sweet, and served with toppings like blueberries, powdered sugar, or even Nutella, strawberry, and banana. It has become her Aruba ritual.
As for dinner, her top recommendation is LG Smith’s Steak & Chop House: “Their steak is out of this world,” she told me, “and their truffle sauce? One of a kind.”
My mom, who joined us on the trip, still talks about the passion fruit bubble martini she had there—served smoking, thanks to a dash of dry ice and a touch of theatrical flair.
If you’re the type of traveler who likes to unwind without a packed itinerary, Aruba’s low-intensity resorts are the way to go. Everything is planned for you—from excursions to quiet moments by the pool—and there’s always an open lounge chair waiting by the beach to tan on.
If you are an adult and enjoy gambling, then playing your hand at the casino is the place to be while on the island. It’s also a perfect spot to finally crack open that summer reading book and let the breeze turn the pages.
Flying in at number three is Paris
Paris is known as the city of love, you and your partner will enjoy promenading the streets at night while taking in the lively French music. Whether you’re enjoying the nightlife, visiting the Eiffel Tower, or eating at a romantic restaurant, Paris is calling your name. The city is a perfect place to get your steps in while visiting its many destinations. I was fortunate enough to go last year, and I’m ready to go back again this summer. The food is absolutely “magnifique” especially the croissants with nutella and beurre. The baguette sandwiches and “croque monsieurs” are a cultural experience. Also, be sure to try the hot chocolate at the Café de Fleur.
Paris is fueled by city escapes, spontaneous shopping sprees, lively music, infamous museums, and, of course, fashion. Some famous designers to come out of Paris are Goyard, Louis Vuitton, and Coco Chanel.
Food
If you’re looking for sweet treats in Paris, macarons are irresistible. Both Ladurée and Pierre Hermé have delicious macarons. I recommended trying the rose macaron from Ladurée.
For something flavorful (and not traditionally Parisian, but still enjoyable), Cook’n Saj offers a fusion menu worth exploring. The hidden gem offers a fusion of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors with a different twist. The “Saj”- most known on the menu consists of marinated kebabs stuffed with vegetables, wrapped around a flatbread. It is often served with roasted eggplant, pomegranate seeds, tahini, and herb salad.
However, if you’re craving classic French cuisine, Au Vieux Comptoir has the perfect meal for you. Their plate of cochonnailles, similar to a beef stew, is a great choice.
Fashion
Shopping and fashion in Paris are an absolute must. Paris is the fashion capital of the world. It is the birthplace to some of the most iconic brands: Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Celine, Balmain, Balenciaga, Goyard, and Cartier. If you wander down Rue Saint-Honoré, you can find a wide selection of luxury shops, especially the original Maison Goyard store.
The most famous shopping spot in Paris is the Champs-Élysées, lined with flagship stores and cafes. On a rainy day, you can spend some time at the Galeries Lafayette, a department store filled with various shops. Paris represents the evolution of fashion—if you’re looking to invest in a designer handbag, this is the place to be.
The museums in Paris house some of the most famous paintings and sculptures around the world. The infamous art museum, the Louvre, contains the renowned Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, and Michelangelo’s sculptures – The Dying Slave and The Rebellious Slave. If you’re looking for a Van Gogh exhibit, the Musée d’Orsay has some of his most stunning collections. The Starry Night Over the Rhône, and some of his self-portraits, are featured there.
Versailles is one of the most opulent palaces in the world, and it is located right in the heart of Paris. It was the seat of power for Louis XIV, Louis XV, and Louis XVI. This was the site of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, which ended World War I.
If you’re into fashion, then it is best to visit the La Galerie Dior. The gallery takes up the entire block at 30 Avenue Montaigne. It consists of a two-story boutique, a museum, three gardens, a restaurant, and a patisserie. The museum holds pieces of Dior’s original sketches and clothing masterpieces.
Monuments
Paris has some beautiful monuments. The Arc de Triomphe houses the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. There is a flame inside that burns in memory of those who fought in World Wars One and beyond, and is a symbol of French pride. It was built by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1806 to honor his army.
Next is Sacre-Coeur de Montmartre, a basilica dedicated to Christ’s heart. It offers a breathtaking view of Paris. It was created in 1914 and represents peace and devotion. If you’re going there with your significant other, be sure to place a lock on the fence near this ancient basilica.
If there’s one thing you MUST do in Pari,s it’s see the Eiffel Tower shimmer. It is arguably one of the most beautiful things in the world. Whether you’re enjoying dinner on a boat ride or strolling through the streets, watching the Eiffel Tower sparkle at night is absolutely breathtaking.
One of my friends, Marcelina Pecak, is going to be living the European summer vibe in a couple of weeks. When I asked her what she was excited about in Paris, she replied, “ I’m excited just to be there and see everything, especially the Eiffel Tower. It feels like one of those places you always hear about. I’m so happy that I’ll finally get to experience it.” She also mentioned how she takes French class and can’t wait to hear and apply the language in real life.
Lifestyle
When it comes to lifestyle, the French live up to their reputation—they dress the way they carry themselves: with elegance and intention. You won’t see anyone walking around in pajamas or sweatpants. Style is a way of life in Paris, and people take pride in dressing well, even for everyday occasions.
Looking for something fun to do? Try to catch a Paris Saint-Germain soccer game at Parc des Princes. While you’re in the area, take a stroll down Rue Saint-Germain. There you can admire classic French architecture and browse high-end boutiques.
If you’re looking for a place to stay, The Ritz Paris is an iconic choice. It is located in Place Vendôme, right across from Chopard, a stunning jewelry store, where you can unwind at the Ritz after a long day of shopping. There is a suite in the Ritz where Coco Chanel once lived!
Paris is also famous for its beautiful perfume shops. Some of the most well-known ones include Guerlain and Officine Universelle Buly. Officine Buly offers more than just perfume—you can customize combs, lip balms, and other beauty items. It’s definitely an experience worth having while in Paris.
Sliding into Second Place: Greece
If you’re dreaming of cultural immersion, fresh Mediterranean cuisine, warm summer sun, and breathtaking beaches—Greece has it all. Arriving at Athens Airport, start your journey with a day or two in Athens and explore the iconic landmarks like the Acropolis and stroll through the ancient theater. If shopping is on your list, then browse modern shops at Golden Hall, one of the city’s most well-known malls. But if it’s sun, sea, and island vibes you’re after, it’s time to head to the Greek Islands. Some of the most well-known islands are Skaithos, Rhodes, and Santorini. Each island offers something unique—whether you’re seeking adventure, spa and relaxation, or a little of both, Greece delivers.
Skiathos
Skiathos is famously known as one of the filming locations for the musical production “Mamma Mia”. The island is filled with unique boutiques and crystal, clear waters. Don’t miss out on Banana Beach, where you can enjoy water sports or just soak up on the beach with locals. The water there has a gentle, warm touch that instantly calms your mind. Floating in the saltwater, eyes closed, you can feel the stress melt away. It’s nature’s own therapy, a feeling you can’t get anywhere else. But if you’re craving a little more action, snorkeling is a must. Beneath the surface, you might spot colorful fish, cuttlefish, and sea urchins.
Rhodes
This island blends medieval charm with seaside beauty. Its “Old Town” medieval charm offers a stroll through the castle and walking by the stores, built into the castle wall. Make sure to pick up a pair of Rhodes sandals- a stylish, authentic local souvenir. For those looking to unwind, Rhodes is also home to several luxurious all-inclusive resorts, including the Mitsis Selection Alila, a 5-star beachfront escape. It’s a great combo of comfort, fine dining, and entertainment. Rhodes is the perfect spot to relax after a day of exploring.
Santorini
Santorini is best known for its iconic blue-domed church, cave pool hotels, volcanic cliffs, and jaw-dropping sunsets. It is also home to black sand beaches. The dark, pebbly sand is made from volcanic rock and ash, giving the beaches a dramatic look that complements the blue Aegean Sea. Perissa Beach is one of the most popular black sand beaches with crystal-clear water, sunbeds, beach restaurants, and water sports.
The food in Greece is unimaginably flavorful, fresh, vibrant, and traditional. With its coastal location, there’s no shortage of daily fresh-caught seafood. Grilled octopus and fish, often seasoned with olive oil, lemon, oregano, and herbs, are a must-try. Some of the most beloved Greek dishes include spanakopita (a spinach and feta pie wrapped in crisp phyllo dough), souvlaki (skewered and grilled meat, often served with warm pita and tzatziki), and moussaka ( a rich, layered casserole of eggplant, ground meat, and creamy sauce).
When it comes to appetizers, the variety is just as mouthwatering. The best way to start is with tzatziki—a refreshing dip made of yogurt, cucumber, and garlic—paired with warm bread. Dolmades (grape leaves stuffed with rice and herbs), horiatiki(traditional Greek salad with ripe tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, olives, and a slab of feta), and gigantes (buttery baked giant beans in a tomato-based sauce) are perfect for sharing.
Greeks love their desserts. Typically, they have baklava, which is a flaky layer of phyllo, crushed nuts, and sweet honey syrup. You might also find loukoumades, little deep-fried dough balls drizzled with honey and cinnamon, to be delicious. Of course, they love their παγωτό-Ice cream. Greece embodies the heart of the Mediterranean diet because of its fresh vegetables, use of olive oil, herbs, and lemon as staple food items in each meal. Seafood is a big part of Greek cuisine, and lamb. These traditional eating habits are closely linked to longevity and a healthy lifestyle, making Greek cuisine as good for the body as it is for the soul.
Don’t forget to swing by the peripteros—Greece’s outdoor, mini, convenience stores. These kiosks are everywhere, offering everything from beach balls and sunscreen to ice cream and snacks. Look out for anything from the brand Papadopoulos, especially the classic Petit Beurre biscuits and Miranda chocolate cookies. They’re simple but tasty, perfect for a quick beach snack or a bite with coffee. Speaking of coffee, no trip to Greece is complete without a daily frappé run. This Greek-style iced coffee is made with instant coffee, sugar, water, and ice, whipped into a thick, foamy delight. It’s cold, refreshing, and absolutely essential for the hot summer afternoons. Also, make sure to grab some Nutella, too. It tastes different (but better) than what you’ll find in the U.S.
**Note: Stay away from restaurants that have a giant sign and pictures of their menus outside because those are tourist trap restaurants.**
Coming in strong at number one with the hottest and trendiest spot to be: The Amalfi Coast
The top destination for 2025 is the Amalfi Coast with its breathtaking scenery and coastal charm. With turquoise waters bordering the Tyrrhenian Sea, pastel-colored villages along the mountain sides, and its winding roads that evoke images straight out of a James Bond movie, the region offers jaw-dropping views at every turn. The Amalfi Coast is made up of 13 towns, but the most notable ones are Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello. Each town offers a unique experience that consists of beaches, boutique shopping, delicious cuisine, and nightlife.
Positano
The best way to describe Positano is a panorama of colors. From the lavish mountainside to the beautiful beaches, this once humble fishing village began to prosper. Originally, Positano was a port city in Italy, however, when trading routes in Italy opened, it began to attract tourists. Piaggia Grande is one of the largest and most popular beaches on the Amalfi Coast. It attracts a large crowd of artists, actors, and celebrities. Make sure you stop by some authentic shops and buy Pezzi di, which are traditional garments that are made from cotton and silk. This town is a perfect mix of mountainside buildings, chic boutiques, and beach clubs tucked into the cove. It’s he perfect combination of glamour and Mediterranean charm.
Amalfi
At the heart of Amalfi is the Duomo di Sant’Andrea Cathedral, an architectural masterpiece. And inside lies the crypt of Saint Andrew, the town’s patron saint. Amalfi’s stone alleys are filled with small artisan shops selling handmade sandals, local ceramics, and lemon-themed souvenirs. The main square is perfect for people-watching while enjoying an espresso. Sunsets are a must to see. Don’t miss local dishes like scialatielli ai frutti di mare (thick pasta with seafood), delizie al limone (lemon sponge cake with cream), and freshly caught anchovies. The area’s famous lemons appear in everything—from salads to desserts to the region’s iconic limoncello.
Ravello
This town of Ravello has gorgeous villas, gardens, and music festivals. Also, it is home to the beautiful Duomo di Ravello Cathedral. Be sure to try the fresh seafood, espresso, and their homemade pasta.
Well, that wraps up the top 5 hottest, trendiest travel destinations around the globe. Be sure to visit one or all of these places this summer. Always travel light and carry a camera to capture the most beautiful spots in the world. Bon voyage!
