Best Buddies prom

The Ludlow High School “Best Buddies” group will be attending a prom with other high schools in the area at Chicopee Comprehensive High School on March 27 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. The event will feature socializing, dancing, and games.

Best Buddies is a nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“Its amazing and fun. I had a great time last year,” said junior Hannah Worpek who has been a part of best buddies for 5 years. “This is the second year [that LHS best buddies will be attending the prom.]” said Worpek.

Last year was the first time that best buddies were able to attend the prom in Western Massachusetts rather than having to travel to Eastern Massachusetts for the annual statewide formal prom.

The theme for this year is Wizard of OZ which Worpek seemed thrilled about and is excited to see what the decorations will look like. “It’s a great theme! They could have the yellow brick road,” said Worpek

Worpek will be attending the prom with her”buddies” juniors Liam Egan and Hannah Smith.”I’ll be wearing a sparkly blue dress.”

The prom is helped put together by assistant principal Michael Halpin and guidance counselor Tesha Ward.
